2021-11-12  Founded in 1948, BIR was the first federation to support the interests of the recycling industry on an international scale. Today, BIR represents over around 700 member companies from the private sector and 39 national associations, in more than 70 countries. Together, these members form the largest international recycling federation.

Recycling one tonne of steel saves 642 kWh of energy, 1.8 barrels (287 litres) of oil and 2.3 cubic metres of landfill space.
